DON"T WORRY, BE HAPPY
“I was very worried, but you comforted me and made me happy.” (Psalm 94:19)
There are so many people who are hurting, are alone, are troubled, those who have money problems, family problems and work problems. God will come to us if “...we pray and ask Him for everything we need” (Phil 4:6). He will comfort and make us happy (Psalm 94:19).
Jesus gave us a list of ways to be happy in His Sermon on the Mount. He said, “Those who are sad now are happy, because the earth will belong to them. Those who want to do right more than anything else, are happy, because God will fully satisfy them. Those who show mercy to others are happy, because God will show mercy to them. Those who are pure in their thinking are happy, because they will be with God. Those who work to bring peace are happy, because God will call them his children” (Matthew 5:4-9).
Happiness is a gift from God. Happiness is being a child of God, and we can be happy if we choose to be. God has put it within the power of everyone to choose their destiny. Our fate is not forced upon us; we choose what our life will be. We are not happy or unhappy because of something our parents did or did not do; we can choose joy or sorrow.
The inner joy that belongs to the child of God cannot be taken away by the world. We, ourselves, can choose unhappiness by turning from God and His will.
We can change our lives by changing our attitudes. We can’t control what happens around us, but we can control how we react. We can choose to be happy.
Robert Louis Stevenson once said, “There is no duty so much underrated as the duty of being happy. By being happy we sow anonymous benefits upon the world.” Be happy.
