Outline of Hebrews
FAR ABOVE ANGELS

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 1:4-14

ANGEL (from Greek word “aggelos” [pronounced “angelos”])
Literally means “a messenger” and is often so translated (Matt. 11:10; Luke 7:24; Luke 9:51, 52)

WHAT THE BIBLE TELLS US ABOUT ANGELS
Created being superior to man (Heb. 2:9 16; Ps. 8:5)
Yet below God (see Rev. 22:8, 9 where the angel forbids John to worship him.
Only God is to be worshipped.)
They are spirits (Heb. 1:14), but can assume other forms (including human forms) when necessary (Luke 24:4; Acts 10:3, 30)
Devil has angels (Matt. 25:41; 1 Cor. 6:3; Jude 5-6; Rev. 12:7)
There are “holy” (Mark 8:38) and “elect” angels (1 Tim, 5:21) in contrast with those who had sinned (2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 6)
Ranks among angels: (a) Arch-angels (Jude 9). From Greek “arche” meaning “Main or chief”; (b) Cherubims (Gen. 3:24); (c) Seraphims (Is. 6:3)
Names, Michael and Gabriel (Jude 9; Luke 1:19)
They are with us, minister to us and are guardians (Heb. 12:22-1:14; Matt. 18:10)
They are concerned in our salvation (Luke 15:10) and some have entertained them (Heb. 13:2)
Worshipping of angels is condemned (Col. 2:18)
They are always spoken of as being masculine

ANGELS SAVED LOT; DESTROYED SODOM AND GOMORRAH; SHUT THE LIONS' MOUTHS FOR DANIEL; MINISTERED TO JESUS; TOOK LAZARUS INTO ABRAHAM'S BOSOM; ROLLED AWAY THE STONE FROM THE TOMB; AND DECLARED THE RESURRECTION

REASONS WHY CHRIST IS SUPERIOR TO ANGELS:
Better name, He is God's Son. None of the angels ever were (vv. 4, 5)
Better relationship – Father and son relationship
Angels worshipped Him (v. 6)
Holy Spirit refers to Jesus as “God” (v. 8)
His throne (rule) to last forever (v. 8)
Above His fellows (v. 9)
“Thou art the same and thy years shall not fail” (v. 12)
Sits on the right hand of God. “Right hand” signifies power or authority (v. 13; see Matthew 28:18)
Conclusion of the reasoning (Heb. 2:1-4): Jesus has been shown to be superior to angels, hence, if the word spoken by angels (Mosaic Law) was steadfast and transgression was punished how shall we escape if we neglect the Word spoken by Jesus who was superior to angels?

IF WE NEGLECT THE SACRIFICE OF JESUS, THERE IS NO OTHER SACRIFICE (Heb. 10:28, 29)
