Outline of Hebrews
SHADOW AND SUBSTANCE

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 3:1-5

CHRIST'S SUPERIORITY TO MOSES
Moses was a "servant" in God's house; a waiting man
There are seven Greek words translated "servant" in the New Testament , each with different shades of meaning. This is the only time this word appears ("Therapon") and means "to serve, to heal; a term of dignity and freedom." We get our word "therapy" from this same Greek word. But Christ, as Son, presides over the house.

JEWS BELIEVE NOBODY IS CLOSER TO GOD THAN MOSES
Numbers 12:1-8 – God spoke "mouth to mouth" with Moses
Yet Christ is closer for Christ is God
Note that it is the Deity of Christ not His Divinity (see Appendix)

MOSES' LAW WAS "SHADOW" OF WHICH CHRIST IS "SUBSTANCE"
Read Colossians 2:13-17; Hebrews 10:1

MOSES WAS "FAITHFUL FOR A TESTIMONY [A WITNESS] FOR THOSE THINGS TO BE SPOKEN AFTER"
Compare John 5:45-47

THE NECESSITY OF "MAKING ALL THINGS ACCORDING TO THE PATTERN" (Heb. 8:5)
Compare Exodus 25:9, 40
